Five Stay-at-home activities for you and your partner

If you are anything like me, it is exceptionally easy to fall into the pattern of eating the usual meal before collapsing onto the couch for the regularly scheduled unhealthy amount of television time with your partner. If you can’t relate to what you just read, I applaud you! Although my partner and I are able to break ourselves out of this familiar pattern (and you are too!), it is not always easy.

With that said, I took a moment to consider activities that couples can do at home! I felt this was a particularly good time for this idea, given that we are all self-quarantining due to the Coronavirus.

And without further ado, here are FIVE stay-at-home activities you can do with your partner!

Build a fort for movie night.

Sure, movie night is fun, but why not make it even better?! Instead of lying in bed or sitting on the couch, grab your blankets, chairs, and anything else you could use to build a fort, and start building!

Building the fort itself is an enjoyable activity for you and your partner, but then you also get to reap the reward of the magic underneath. Grab your favorite snacks and drinks, hop in under your fort, get comfortable, and turn on the movie.

My husband and I actually did this activity recently, and I must say that it was way more fun than a regular movie night!

Play with Gottman Card Decks.

If you have kept up with my blog at all, you may know that I am a mental health counselor. As a counselor, the Gottman Method is one of my favorite counseling methods for couples work. And guess what? They have a FREE card deck in the App store that offers intriguing questions to ask your partner.

Use these cards to get to know one another even better, and even turn it into a game. Shape it however you’d like!

Create a themed dinner.

If you have TikTok, you may have witnessed this trend already, but I absolutely love it! Plan a special dinner with your partner, but make it a themed dinner. Choose a movie, TV show, decade, or whatever, and dress up for dinner within the specified theme you both choose.

Take it one step farther: Take a photo with your partner and post it on social media for your friends to vote who rocked it the best!

 Take the love languages test (P.S. it’s FREE!)

Have you and your partner ever wondered what your love language is? And by love language, I mean the way that you each express and receive love. It can be different for each partner and it is super helpful to understand one another’s love language so that we can love our patterns even more.

Take a moment during quarantine to take the love language test and learn more about how to express love for one another.

Go camping in your backyard (or your living room).

Campgrounds and hiking trails may be closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still camp! Pop up a tent in your backyard, or living room if you live in an apartment, make some delicious snacks and enjoy the evening. Even if you are not able to actually be outdoors, it can still bring a bit more magic to your night!
