I want to be courageous.
I want to be the woman who takes a stand.
I want to be the woman who fights for what she believes in.
I want to be the woman who pursues her wildest dreams.
I want to be courageous.
Friends, we are approaching yet another year. Yay — we made it through 2018! Your previous year may have been filled with a lot of happiness and plenty of sadness, but let’s remember to keep our faces raised towards the sun as we approach a new year.
Let’s begin this new year with a positive attitude.
Let’s begin this year with a plan.
Every December, we hear people making New Year Resolutions. Every January, we hear people talk about how they’re going to be committed to their resolutions. And every February, we hear them abandon their resolutions.
Why do you think resolutions are usually abandoned? I think it’s because although we have these wonderful ideas in mind that would improve our lives, we never create a concrete plan.
Allow me to ask you a question: Do you have a plan for your life?
Where do you want to be?
Who do you want to be?
And better yet, how can you achieve those dreams? What steps can you take? When can you start?
This December, take some time to sit down and reflect. Write about how you spent your time in 2018 and how you plan to spend your time in 2019. Here are some topics that you can consider:
- Accomplishments in 2018
- Failures in 2018
- Goals for 2019
- In 2019, I will be…
- Word for 2019
My word for 2019 is courage. A lot of the goals that I have listed for the new year center around me being willing to take courageous steps.
I highly encourage you to list your goals for 2019 and consider what word all of those goals have in common. Do you need courage? Do you need strength? Do you need growth? No matter what, I am confident that you will find what it is that you are looking for in the new year.
Do I believe that you necessarily need a new year to begin a new way of living? Do I believe that you need a new year to become courageous, or strong, or to grow?
Nope. Absolutely not.
However, there is something poetic about beginning a new way of living at the beginning of a new year.
But friends, please never forget that you always have the capacity to improve your life and to improve yourself.
You don’t need January 1st.
You don’t need Monday.
You don’t need a new month.
You don’t need anything. You have the power. You should always believe in yourself and follow your wildest dreams.
Allow me to leave you with one last thought. We always hear the phrase, ‘new year, new me’. While this is a harmless phrase, try to mix it up this year. Instead of trying to change who you are completely — you are perfect and wonderfully made just as you are, and do not need an entirely new version of you — simply improve yourself. Replace ‘new year, new me’ with ‘new year, do you’.
Let’s crush it in 2019!
